Sparks America - June 2004
If you don't want to read my ramblings ... the links to the picture pages are at the bottom of this page so scroll on down ...
Last year was a blast so I didn't want to miss this year. I couldn't find anyone to go with me so I packed all my shit on the trailer, hooked it to my bike and I was off. I didn't have a plan on getting away from the house so I got a late start and got there at around 9:00 p.m.
The ride over was great. It is funny how people roll down their windows to hear the pipes. It sounds even louder and deeper when I pull a trailer so I really put on a show ... I don't have a pass for the turnpike so I have to stop at every toll booth ... and if I take the interstate all the way ... there are 5 ... but I did make a lot of noise accelerating from the booth ... lots of windows rolled down ... kind of funny really as hot out as it was ...
When I got to Sparks I just parked the bike where I figured I would camp and went out looking for my bud Legs ... I found her in short order ... she is always near the action ... then of course I went looking for photo ops ... they of course presented themselves in short order and I was off and running ...
I like to photograph the skin-to-win contest which was supposed to start at midnight so I made my way towards the stage ... it was scheduled at midnight but did not start until 1:30 a.m. ... I think they were trying to get more contestants ... when it finally got underway it was a good one ... the ladies all competing for some large bucks ... I think that the winner got around $600 ... but I could be wrong ...
Finally around 2:30 in the morning I pitched my tent and crashed ... had to conserve energy for Saturday ...
Saturday started off for me with a few photos and then when I was getting ready to be one of the judges of the bike show, Legs got herself involved on a tug-of-war team and they needed another body so I volunteered ... there was only one other team that morning (with 5 guys) and we beat them ... this was supposed to get us in the finals that afternoon against Friday's winner but there was some confusion after lunch and they had another round of tugging ... that was cool though because they got a lot more participation than in the morning ... we then had some pull-off and we ended up losing in the final elimination ... the eventual winning team had pulled 4 times (or more?) Saturday so they damn sure earned the plaques ... it was cool that all 5 members got a plaque ... there are several pictures of the competition ...
The bike show was a good one ... Legs did a great job of organizing it ... and if you see me at the next event ... um ... I judged your bike real highly ... remember that ...
There was a panty race that was funny as shit ... there are 2 pylons ... the girls start at one pylon with panties and a top ... run to the other pylon and dump the top ... race back to first pylon and dump the panties ... then run butt-assed nekkid to the second pylon and put their top back on ... then run back to the first pylon and put on their panties ... the first one finished wins!
I think that they had a men's panty race too but it was time to find a phone in Chandler ... and some a/c and cool off ...
Anyway it was back for more fun and games ... my favorite was the "titty slide" (naturally) where these ladies get all oiled up and then run and slide on a long wet plastic sheet ... it looked like the longest slide won ... the competition was fierce and some took the announcer's suggestion that panties create drag and therefore should be removed ... excellent ... the nekkid slide ... some dude paid $200 (there was an auction) to oil up the competitors (the $ went in the prize pot for the ladies) but I don't think that he understood the concept ... I think that he was supposed to rub not spray the oil on them ... but he didn't seem to care and was having a hell of a time shooting baby oil ...
The music started sometime afterward and there were several bands ... the music style was different but they were all excellent ...
I started to make my way towards the stage at around 11:00 p.m. in order to get a good spot to shoot the skin-to-win contest for Saturday ... unfortunately for you and me the show didn't get started until around 1:30 in the morning once again (getting the contestants toasted?) and my poor back just couldn't take it any more so I went to sit down ... about 15 minutes before it started it turns out ... oh well ... there are 300 pictures in this update and I guess that's enough ...
Sparks is an excellent Rally ... 4 days in all for those of you who have the time ... and it's big enough for there to be lots going on but small enough that you can get around without being nut-to-butt with everyone ... I highly recommend it and if you click on the banner above you'll go to their web site where you can check out the info for other events that they have there and also see more pictures taken at Sparks America events ... I think that next year we need to set up the Shooters for Hooters booth ...
Enjoy ...
